KRFC Presents Fruition & Grant Farm

Fruition

 With guest Gipsy Moon
Sunday May 24, 2015 8:00 PM (Doors at 6:00 PM)

Sharing a common love of music and life on the road, Fruition were originally brought together by the lure of adventure. For the last six years, the Portland, Ore. string infused quintet has racked up the miles playing sold out shows in their adopted hometown and garnering new fans across the country. Fruition have toured with or collaborated with members of Railroad Earth, ALO, Infamous Stringdusters, Leftover Salmon, Greensky Bluegrass, Elephant Revival and The Head and The Heart. They've thrilled audiences at festivals including High Sierra Music Festival, Northwest String Summit and All Good Music Festival, and played for packed rooms at Portland, OR’s Crystal Ballroom, Boulder, CO’s Fox Theater, San Francisco’s Fillmore as well as the Great American Music Hall, Boston, MA’s Brighton Music Hall and more. From broken down vans and whiskey shots, to the lovers and loved-ones who check-in through the miles, at the end of the day it's Just One of Them Nights for this talented bunch who are experiencing a radiant present and looking towards an even brighter future.

Grant Farm is a band on a mission. Lead by National Flatpicking Guitar Champion Tyler Grant(Emmitt/Nershi Band), the talented four-piece is built on the foundation of love, family and the joy of music. The Grant Farm train stops at all stations on the North American roots music line, and is not afraid to let the whistle scream with some blistering jams. After several solid seasons of touring Coast-to-Coast behind their eponymous 2012 debut album, Grant Farm and the 2014 follow up, Plowin’ Time (#2 JamBand Radio Charts), audiences everywhere are a-buzz with the Roots, Rock and Cris-Co statement that Grant Farm brings to every performance. In September 2014 Grant Farm collaborated with the band Fruition to release Meeting on the Mountain, an inspired EP that has reached #8 on the JamBand Radio charts and #148 on the AMA Radio Charts.

Euforquestra & Juno What?!

Friday May 29th, 2015 8:00 PM (Doors at 6:00)
With opener: Mikey Thunder

Eufórquestra (pronounced yoo-FOHR-keh-struh, think euphoria+orchestra) is energy and rhythm personified. An ever-evolving sound that has been influenced by music from all over the world with an emphasis on funk, pocket and groove. For over a decade the band has been igniting dance floors across the country, blending the roots of funk, soul, afrobeat, reggae and dub to create a sound that “explodes, dances and melts in your ear with sheer bliss” (Chris M. Slawecki; AllAboutJazz.com).

Eufórquestra’s fifth full-length record, FIRE, was produced by Kyle Hollingsworth (of The String Cheese Incident) and captures the passion and musical maturing of these road warriors. Over the course of 14 tracks, the band takes you on an hour-long adventure that will touch your heart and mind, and keep your fingers and toes tapping. A handful of special guests, including Elliot Martin (John Brown’s Body), Gabriel Mervine and Kim Dawson (The Motet) and Mr. Hollingsworth himself, put their own touches on the band’s already cohesive sound that is “tight and engineered to a fine, funky precision.” (Jeremy Frazier; Chicago Jam Scene) The result is a record that is distinctly modern, maintaining one foot in the future and firmly planting in the musical roots traditions of the past.

With almost 1,000 shows under their belt, Eufórquestra shows no sign of stopping. A perpetually heavy tour schedule keeps the band and fans happy, as performing live in front of an audience has always been the band’s top priority. As noted in a live show review by Grateful Web, “...the boys seem to play like the apocalypse will happen at any second and they want to die doing what they do best...”

Juno What?! is a shameless dance party based in the music mecca of Denver, CO. This powerhouse quartet delivers a deeply satisfying mix of live electro-funk and high-energy disco booty jams. The band formed in 2008 as an outlet for Joey Porter’s (The Motet) organic-meets-electronic dance compositions and since has released three independent albums (Late Night, Shameless, and Late Night Live). Touring regularly since 2009, Juno What?! has shared the stage with funk luminaries such as Ohio Players and Bernie Worrell, and most of the top of the crop of contemporary groove masters. Juno What?! audiences are treated to a band that appreciates both the classic pedigree of vintage vinyl dance cuts as well as futuristic sternum-bumping anthems. The band consists of Joey Porter (keyboards, talkbox), fellow Motet-eer Garrett Sayers (bass, synth bass), Denver guitarist at large Dan Schwindt and first call drummer Tyrone Hendrix. This core group is often augmented by special guests taken from the best of the gigging groups on the scene (including founding member Dominic Lalli of Big Gigantic). These musicians have gathered their collective talents to focus on this mission of making the world a better place… to dance!

Hayes Carll

With opening act Ginger Whale
Wednesday June 10th, 2015 8:00 PM (Doors at 6:00 PM)

This show has been moved from the SpokesBUZZ Lounge to our outdoor venue.

Hayes Carll is an odd mix. Wildly literate, utterly slackerly, impossibly romantic, absolutely a slave to the music, the 35-year old Texan is completely committed to the truth and unafraid to skewer pomposity, hypocrisy and small-minded thinking.

In a world of shallow and shallower, where it’s all groove and gloss, that might seem a hopeless proposition. Last year, “Another Like You,” Carll’s stereotype’s attract duet of polar opposites, was American Songwriter’s #1 Song of 2011 – and KMAG YOYO was the Americana Music Association’s #1 Album, as well as making Best of Lists for Rolling Stone, SPIN and a New York Times Critics Choice.

But more importantly than the critical acclaim is the way Carll connects with music lovers across genres lines. Playing rock clubs and honkytonks, Bonnaroo, Stones Fest, SXSW and NXNE, he and his band the Gulf Coast Orchestra merge a truculent singer/songwriter take that combines Ray Wylie Hubband’s lean freewheeling squalor with Todd Snider’s brazen Gen Y reality and a healthy dose of love amongst unhealthy people.

Hot Buttered Rum & Roosevelt Collier's Get Down

With special guest Dead Winter Carpenters
Friday June 12th, 2015 8:00 PM (Doors at 6:00 PM)

Hot Buttered Rum lives for songs. Songs to sing in the shower. Songs to crank through your earbuds at the DMV. Songs to name your babies after, and then make more babies to. The band’s three songwriters, Aaron Redner, Nat Keefe and Erik Yates, spin tales about the good times, the bad times, and the roads in between, and belt them from the heart in three-part harmony. Bryan Horne’s athletic standup bass and Lucas Carlton’s tasteful percussion combine with the acoustic instruments to create what is California’s own acoustic music. Hot Buttered Rum lives for a good time. The group’s onstage chemistry fuels the lovefest that is a live HBR show. A mindful recklessness settles in whenever these five guys step out of their front doors in northern California to entertain crowds from Anchorage to Miami.

Dead Floyd

With special guest Good Gravy
Opening act Better than Bacon
Friday, June 19th, 2015 8:00 PM (Doors at 6:00)

Dead Floyd is a celebration of the music of two of rock and roll’s greatest bands, The Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd, mashed together into one high-energy, unpredictable show. Drawing from both extensive catalogs of music, the Dead Floyd performances include early rarities to modern classics and everything in between. The love of the music of both bands inspires Dead Floyd to uniquely interpret the songs in a way that allows the music to timelessly live on and the legacy of both bands to stay alive to the next generation of fans.  The excitement, creativity, and improvisation that went into both bands live shows of so many years is brought back for old and new fans to enjoy today.

Because the number of songs available from both bands is so large, the question that is heard at every Dead Floyd show is “What will they play next?”  The unpredictability of the set list and the modern translation of classic, beloved songs bring an element of surprise to every Dead Floyd show.  That is what has kept fans captivated and why their legacy as a tribute band continues to grow.

Dead Floyd is based out of Fort Collins, Colorado and, since forming in summer 2009, they have performed at renowned venues such as The Fox Theatre, The Aggie Theatre, Mishawaka Amphitheatre, Owsleys, Quixotes, Ullr’s Tavern, and more.

The members of the band draw on their roots in jazz, funk, and rock to bring a high level of musicianship to the music and close attention to detail. The band is made up of Charlie Humphreys (guitar, vocals), Josh Miller (bass, vocals), Stu Crair (drums, vocals), and Matt Goldberg (keys, synth).   This group of players has combined to perform over 1000 shows across the country in various original projects including The Grippe, Hot Gazpacho, The Maji, Wooleye, Holy Moses and the High Rollers, Orooni, and many more.

The audience response to Dead Floyd has been overwhelming for everyone involved and the fans’ love of the music pushes this project to new heights.  Come to the next show and find out why…

Robert Randolph and The Family Band with Special Guests the Stone Foxes

Friday June 26th, 2015 8:00 PM (Doors at 6:00)

When Robert Randolph talks about his new album, Lickety Split, a few words come up over and over—"joy," "freedom," "energy." Which is no surprise, really, because those are the same things that immediately spring into a listener's mind when these twelve tracks from the virtuoso pedal steel guitarist and his longtime accompanists, the Family Band, explode out of the speakers.

"My thing is really upbeat, uptempo, with great guitar riffs," says Randolph, summarizing his musical ambitions, "but also catchy choruses and lyrics that someday will make this music into classic tunes."

“Robert Randolph is an American Original," says Don Was, President of Randolph's new label, Blue Note Records. "He has mastered what is, arguably, the most complex instrument in the world and developed a unique voice that is equal parts street-corner church and Bonnaroo. This album finally captures the energy and excitement of his legendary live performances.”

EOTO with Special Guest Louis Futon

Opening Act: Ill Mannered
Friday July 10th, 2015 8:00 PM
(Doors at 6:00)

All Improvised Electronic Music

A live band on hi-tech hyperdrive,
EOTO has forged new territory in the electronic dance music movement. Locked and loaded with computers, loopers, midi controllers, routers, software, mixers, and the latest in music technology, multi-instrumentalist Michael Travis and percussionist/vocalist, Jason Hann have sent a speeding bullet through the electronic dance community due to their innovative 100% improvised approach and as a result, their exclusive sound. Not just a haphazard foray into experimental music, the duo starts their musical adventure from scratch (there are no pre-recorded loops, no backing tracks, and no pre-constructed songs in their live production) building each set, note-by-note, beat by beat, live before the audience as each show explodes into a full-scale dance party.

What makes EOTO extraordinary is the way the duo designs their performance by looping live guitar, bass, and keyboard synths, alongside with live drums and vocals, to carve out their sound right before the eyes and ears of the audience. No small feat in music production; even the highest order of studio producers, audiophiles, and musicians have a hard time wrapping their head around EOTO’s approach, and the wild ride that results.

Jurassic 5

Sunday July 19th, 2015 8:00 PM (Doors at 6:00)

Jurassic 5 debuted nationally in 1995 from TVT Records with their first single, "Unified Rebelution". Jurassic 5 released their first record, Jurassic 5 EP, in 1997. After Jurassic 5 put out their first record, it "cemented their position in the 1990s alternative hip hop movement, alongside artists such as Company Flow, Black Star and Kool Keith."  The group later signed to Interscope Records and the EP was repackaged with additional tracks and released in December 1998 as the full-length, eponymous debut album entitled Jurassic 5. In an 2002 interview The Sydney Morning Herald, the group explained the origin of their name. Chali 2na revealed, “I played the song to my friend’s mother and she made a joke: ‘You guys think you sound like the Fantastic Five, but you sound more like the Jurassic Five.’ And we started laughing but, well, the name stuck.” It is also widely believed that while the group has 4 emcees that contribute lyrics, their voices combined in harmony, which occurs on nearly every track, is the fifth voice of the group.

This was followed by their second album Quality Control, which peaked at #43 on the Billboard 200. In 2002, they released their third album, Power In Numbers which peaked at #15 on the Billboard 200 chart. Jurassic 5 eventually toured without Cut Chemist, who left the group to pursue a solo career. The remaining five members released their fourth and final album, Feedback, on July 25, 2006. The album peaked at #15 on the Billboard 200. In April 2014 Jurassic 5 were added to the Glastonbury Festival line up.

Lucero

Lucero w/ Special Guests

With Mosey West
Saturday July 25th 8:00 PM (Doors at 6:00)

Look to your left. A young couple is passionately making out. To your right, two grizzled bearded gentlemen are getting drunk and rowdy, and singing loud as hell. And don’t forget to look up, because an old punk rocker has just launched himself from the stage. Welcome, you are at a Lucero show.

Over their 16 years together, the Memphis band has built up a fanbase that’s as diverse as it is rabid. Ask 50 Lucero fans what their favorite song is and you’ll get 50 different answers. Among the band’s 100-plus songs across nine albums and multiple EPs, there’s no universal fan favorite. “Each person makes Lucero their own thing,” says frontman Ben Nichols. “Everyone identifies with us for completely different reasons. For one reason or another, Lucero becomes a very personal band.” But the one thing that seems to unify Lucero fans of all kinds is the band’s all-or-nothing live show. Parts country and parts folk with an added heaping of punk rock, the six-piece cover the musical gamut. Even the band members have varying opinions on how to define their sound. “We’re each playing in a completely different band. We’re on stage and each playing in our own Lucero. I’m not sure that’s how it works for other bands,” laughs Nichols.

Asleep At The Wheel

Asleep At The Wheel w/ Special Guests

Sunday July 26th, 2015 6:00 PM (Doors at 4:00)

Asleep at the Wheel has seen miles and miles of Texas. They got their kicks on Route 66. And, in 2010, the band clicked another milestone on the odometer – their 40th anniversary. Now in their 44th year, the band continues to introduce the western swing genre to a new generation on tour and takes audiences on the ride of a lifetime with their play, “A Ride with Bob.” “It’s been an amazing ride. From Paw Paw to San Francisco to Austin, we’ve seen it all,” says Wheel front man Ray Benson. “But, rest assured, there is still so many exciting projects in the works. The Wheel keeps rolling!”

It all started when Ray Benson, Floyd Domino, and Lucky Oceans, along with a Vermont farm boy named Leroy Preston; Virginian Chris O'Connell; and Gene Dobkin, a bass player and fellow classmate of Benson's from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, joined forces. They began with a simple goal: to play and help revive American roots music.

Asleep at the Wheel landed a gig opening for Alice Cooper and Hot Tuna in Washington, DC in 1970. At the height of Vietnam, many Americans were using their choice of music to express their stance on the conflict in southeast Asia. “We wanted to break that mold,” said Benson. “We were concerned more with this amazing roots music, which we felt was being lost amid the politics. We were too country for the rock folks and we were too long-haired for the country folks. But everybody got over it once the music started playing.”

Col. Bruce Hampton & The Aquarium Rescue Unit

Friday July 31st, 2015 at 8:00 PM (Doors at 6:00 PM)

– Referred to in a recent Relix feature as “The Jamband Velvet Underground,” the influential dada-jam trailblazers Col. Bruce Hampton & the Aquarium Rescue Unit will return to rattle the landscape this summer with a series of live performances – than band’s first since a much-talked-about 2011 reunion at the Georgia Theatre in Athens.

With the daring, iconoclastic Hampton at the helm, the Aquarium Rescue Unit played a seminal role in fostering today’s vital, thriving improvisational music community. And their presence is still felt: Since Hampton and the band parted ways in 1993, the band’s members have gone on to both inspire and enliven the music of the genre’s most revered practitioners: Herring (guitar) with Widespread Panic,The Dead, Jazz is Dead, the Ringers, and his own solo project. Burbridge (bass) with his band the Peacemakers and with the Allman Brothers and the Tedeschi Trucks Band; and Sipe (aka Apt. Q-258, drums) with his own trio and collaborations with Phil Lesh, Béla Fleck, Susan Tedeschi, Trey Anastasio, Jazz is Dead, Alex Machacek, Debashish Bhattacharya, and many more. For these dates, the ARU will also be joined by keyboardist Matt Slocum, who performed with them at the 2011 Georgia Theatre show.

Which leaves the good Colonel (retired)...a seismic catalyst of the first order, Hampton’s presence was first felt as a member of the cult Georgia ensemble the Hampton Grease Band. From there, Hampton – a mesmerizing blues-inflected vocalist, freewheeling guitarist, and caustic ringmaster – applied his boundless energy, cosmic wit, and fearless exploratory zeal to pursuits as varied as standup comedy, wrestling, and music ranging from free jazz to hillbilly blues. The Aquarium Rescue Unit coalesced during a weekly jam session in Atlanta before taking their act on the road, signing with Capricorn Records, and helping to found the first H.O.R.D.E. tour.

Bruce is a visionary that has enriched the life of anyone that's worked with him,” says Jimmy Herring. “He gives you an outlet that encourages finding your own voice, but he's quick to point out that freedom can be a prison…”

Being a part of Bruce's musical world is a liberating experience in that he entices the players to discover their true and full expression,” explains Jeff Sipe. “With Col. Bruce there's always the threat that something radically different is going to happen midstream,” Oteil Burbridge adds.

Periodic Aquarium Rescue Unit reunions, both with and without Hampton, have taken place over the past two decades, but these shows represent the band’s first sustained run of dates since 2007. The sets will feature a mix of new and old material. Most crucially, every performance will be recorded for a possible live album release on the Abstract Logix imprint.

While listeners and musicians are already salivating at the potential of this reunion, no one is more excited than the ARU members themselves. “While the youthful ARU was exciting live, I think the more experienced ARU can have more of an impact,” Burbridge reflects. Sipe concludes, “After 26 years, we’re all friends and are still inspired. Getting together again is for me a rare privilege and one that's filled with magic, because each of my friends are so brilliant and truly awesome.”

When asked for his thoughts on the upcoming reunion, Hampton simply responded, “Activate.”

Ryan Bingham

Ryan Bingham with Special Guests

Saturday August 1st, 2015 8:00 PM (Doors at 6:00 PM)
With Special Guests - HONEYHONEY

Ryan Bingham needed some peace and quiet. Free of the burdens that had saddled him during the writing and recording of his recent albums, he relocated to an old airstream trailer tucked away in the mountains of California, camping out for several weeks and embracing the solitude to dig down deep and craft his most powerful album yet, 'Fear and Saturday Night.'

"It gave me the space and time to tap into myself," Bingham says of the experience. "Up there, it was totally isolated. No phones, no noise, no lights. At night the only thing you'd hear is the bugs and the coyotes. It's lonely when you get back up in there and there's nobody around, but for me, I kind of grew up that way in the middle of nowhere. Since I've started touring, I'm surrounded by people all the time, so getting back to the roots of everything, that’s really where I seem to find stuff that's meaningful when I'm writing songs."

'Fear and Saturday Night' is the most authentic, personal, and deeply moving portrait of that man we've heard yet.

Lord Huron

Thursday August 6th, 2015 8:00 PM
(Doors at 6:00)

With Special Guest: San Fermin

Ben Schneider conjured Lord Huron from the depths of Lake Huron during a trip to his family home in northern Michigan in 2010. Ancient memories, smoke over the moon and nights full of perilous laughter all bolstered the brew from which Lord Huron emerged. Ben brought Lord Huron back with him to Los Angeles, where strange young things are known to flourish, unhindered.

As the songs grew, so did the need for a band to play them. Answering the call ringing out from California, grand brethren from years past, friends and fellow Michiganders, Mark Barry, Miguel Briseno and Tom Renaud, left their respective paths, or bent each road to their own will, to reconvene out west. An old crew reformed in a new harbor.

After a pair of EPs, a debut album, Lonesome Dreams saw release in 2012. Tours followed that found the boys in blistering deserts, reveling in sinister paradises, wandering frozen coasts and lost among the hanging fog of bygone forests. Who can say but the soles of their shoes how far they travelled and how wide?

In 2014, trail-weary but intrepid, Lord Huron set up camp deep in Los Angeles at Whispering Pines Studios to notch their latest songs and abet the journeys of others. Lord Huron will release the next chapter of their adventures, Strange Trails, in April 2015.

The Travelin' McCourys

The Travelin' McCourys with Special Guests

Friday August 7th, 2015 8:00 PM (Doors at 6:00)

The Travelin’ McCourys do not stand still. They are on the road—and online—entertaining audiences with live shows that include some of the best musicians and singers from all genres. It’s always different, always exciting, and always great music.

No other band today has the same credentials for playing traditional and progressive music. As the sons of bluegrass legend Del McCoury, Ronnie McCoury on mandolin and Rob McCoury on banjo continue their father’s work—a lifelong dedication to the power of bluegrass music to bring joy into people’s lives. And with fiddler Jason Carter and bassist Alan Bartram, the ensemble is loved and respected by the bluegrass faithful. But the band is now combining their sound with others to make something fresh and rejuvenating.

They recently played with the Allman Brothers at Wanee Fest and then brought the house down at Warren Haynes’ Annual Christmas Jam, an invitation only Southern Rock homecoming.  Their jam with the Lee Boys was hailed by many as the highlight of the evening, and once word of the live video hit the streets, sent new fans online to watch a supercharged combination of sacred steel, R&B, and bluegrass. They’ve also performed with Warren Haynes, Phish, and have a tour scheduled with the aforementioned Lee Boys. Ronnie McCoury described it as “peanut butter and jelly.” It was just right.

They can push forward so far because their roots are so deep. The band has a confidence that only comes with having paid their dues with twenty years on the bluegrass road. Other groups and new fans hear this immediately—the tight rhythm, the soulful material, and the confidence in taking bluegrass from the safety of the shore into uncharted waters.

Patti Fiasco

Patti Fiasco w/ The Yawpers

With special guests The Yawpers and Peculiar Patriots
Saturday August 8th, 2015 8:00 PM (Doors at 6:00)

Jet-fueled by powerhouse front woman Alysia Kraft, The Patti Fiasco rides the edge of emotional extreme, delivering a brash yet fiercely soulful brand of rock and roll with a heavy dose of rockabilly, blues, and ballad. At times raw and volatile, and at others, sweet and lilting, the band fuses a hard-rock swagger with the two-step of its Wyoming roots. It’s the attitude of Joan Jett with a Steve Earle twang, the soul and slide of Bonnie Raitt, Black-Keys-style dirty blues-rock, and the lyric edginess of Shovels and Rope.

Kraft’s unrelenting energy, inspired songwriting, and vocals “as pure and clean as they are powerful” earned her FoCoMA’s 2013 Best Front Person award. The dobro, handmade and electrified—literally—by band member and 2007 RockyGrass dobro competition winner Ansel Foxley, builds the band’s signature blend of rock, country, and Americana. Lead guitarist Dee Tyler’s riffs range from gritty and driving to pensive and melodic, and his backing vocals add warmth to Kraft’s pointed lyrics. On bass, Niles Mischke anchors the sound with solid, feel-good grooves, delivering an irresistible dance-floor appeal. Formidable drummer/percussionist Peter Knudson’s smart yet gut-driven rhythms drive the group with a primal energy tempered by subtle sophistication.

Chris Daniels: is not related to Charlie or Jack or Bill — though often asked that question. Starting as a 17 year old songwriter and guitarist back in the 70s when he played with David Johansen, (before the New York Dolls) and later with Russell Smith (after The Rhythm Aces), Chris has preformed thousands of shows, touring 40 out of every 52 weeks with his current band Chris Daniels & the Kings for 25 years. He has worked making records and performing with some of the most respected musicians in the business including Sonny Landreth, Sam Bush, Bela Fleck, David Bromberg, Al Kooper, Bill Payne, and Don Was to name only a few. He was the founder of the Telluride After Hours Jam playing that festival on and off for ten years beginning in 1975.

Ott

With opening acts Kaminanda and Templo
Friday August 14th, 2015 8:00 (Doors at 6:00)

Early on, Ott found his first work as an engineer in several studios around North London. Working obsessively, 18 hours a day, seven days a week for the next ten years, Ott developed his engineer skills working with artists such as Brian Eno, The Orb, Youth, African Head Charge, Steve Hillage, and On-U-Sound.

After mastering his studio skills, Ott celebrated the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st by giving it all up and moving to a remote cottage in South West England to be alone with his cats and his studio. Here he embarked on a series of sonic experiments, drawing heavily on the classic dub sounds from Jamaica and hypnotic electronic pulse from Germany which had provided such a refuge during the 1980′s. A period of intense creativity followed, during which a great many tracks were created and then stashed away on tapes.

In the meantime, Ott hatched a plan to remix half a dozen or so classic Hallucinogen trance tracks and release them as dub mixes – slower, fatter and more chillout friendly. In 2002 the album “Hallucinogen in Dub” was released via Twisted Records to universal acclaim. Buoyed by the success of “Hallucinogen in Dub”, the following years to come would see Ott gather together and release his sonic experiments on Twisted Record as the albums “Blumenkraft” and “Skylon”, as well as a whirl of gigs around the world, remixes for Shpongle, Entheogenic, Tripswitch, and collaborative projects like Umberloid (with Chris Barker) and Gargoyles (with Simon Posford).  During this time, Ott travelled the word, got married, welcomed his daughter

Daisy to the world and recorded his fourth album, which he self released in 2011, entitled ‘Mir’.2012 saw the launch of Ott’s collaborative live band ‘Ott & the All-Seeing I’.  After two North American tours and the release of a live DVD/Blu-Ray from a sold out show at Terminal West in Atlanta, the band has hit the studio to work on a release tentatively scheduled for late 2015.

In the meantime, Ott has been putting the finishing touches on his fifth full length album, to be released spring 2015, alongside an all new stage show featuring a live visual show.

Dawes & James Vincent McMorrow

Wednesday August 19th, 2015 8:00 PM (Doors at 6:00)

On Dawes new album:
“And may all your favorite bands stay together,” sings Taylor Goldsmith on the title track to Dawes’ fourth album, All Your Favorite Bands, on their own HUB Records, harking back to a time when that very special rock group helped define who you were, expressing the joy and passion the foursome put into the release. “Your favorite band can identify you, express how you see yourself,” explains Goldsmith, who co-wrote the song with Jonny Fritz and is the sole author of the album’s other eight tracks. “They enable you to articulate your feelings through the way they play their instruments and the lyrics.” On All Your Favorite Bands, Dawes manage to transcend their well-documented Southern California influences to establish their own sound and themes, which range from the glass half full optimism of the first single, “Things Happen” and the minor-chord tension of “I Can’t Think About It Now” (featuring background vocals from Gillian Welch and the McCrary Sisters) to the soulful gospel of “Waiting for Your Call,” the rocking tongue-in-cheek lyrics of “Right On Time” and the epic, Dylan-esque set piece, “Now That It’s Too Late, Maria.” Produced by David Rawlings (Dave Rawlings Machine, Gillian Welch, Robyn Hitchcock, Old Crow Medicine Show, Willie Watson) at Woodland Sound Studios in Nashville, Dawes recorded these new songs after they had already been road-tested in front of live audiences in intimate venues from Sonoma to Santa Barbara, with Rawlings in tow. The producer even played guitar solos on two of the tracks (including that jangling noir Epiphone acoustic on “Somewhere Along the Way”), with Richard Bennett on acoustic guitar and Paul Franklin on pedal steel, also contributing.

On James Vincent McMorrow:
The Mexican border: on one side, the contained security of El Paso Texas, the safest city in the United States. And on the other, the ruthless bustle of Juárez, where the reign of drug cartels have seen it escalate into one of the most dangerous communities in the world. In the no man's land near the border, there lies a shady pecan farm -- and it is here that 'Post Tropical', the strange but beautiful second album from James Vincent McMorrow, was brought to life.

2010's 'Early in the Morning' took James from pushing trolleys at an airport and recording in an isolated cabin near the Irish Sea to a number 1, gold-certified debut album, and a nomination for Ireland's Choice Music Prize. Along the way, there were shows everywhere from the Royal Festival Hall to Later...with Jools Holland, and a breakout hit in the charity cover of Steve Winwood's 'Higher Love.' McMorrow's first record was the formative sounds of a songwriter who suddenly found people giving a damn. "I'm so proud of that album," he says now, "but I never longed to be a guy with a guitar. You play these songs live as best you can, and suddenly you're a Folk musician. But the texture of this record is completely different. This is the kind of stuff I actually listen to."

'Post Tropical' is a stunning piece of work -- built up slowly but spontaneously from hundreds of non-linear sound files and disparate lyric pages, resulting in ten meticulously-crafted songs. Its broadened horizons may come as a surprise to everyone but McMorrow himself, who has (amongst other things) harboured a lifelong love of hip-hop and atmospheric R&B. "I found a zip drive recently, which dates back to before I made my first record, and I'd re-recorded every single part of the N.E.R.D album -- apart from the vocals -- just for the joy of it. I wanted to give this record the feel and movement of the R&B records that I love."

It's a step forward that is immediate apparent on album opener and first single 'Cavalier' -- a brooding twist on the Slow-Jam, which builds quietly from hushed keys and hand-claps to soaring brass, beats and McMorrow's idiosyncratic falsetto. Across the album, the sounds and melodies evolved from a painstaking process of building texture: there are 808s on the haunting 'Red Dust,' looped piano on 'Looking Out,' and 50 mandolins made to sound like a waterfall on 'The Lakes.' McMorrow's sometimes-surreal songwriting holds each element in place, on album which he wrote, produced, and played virtually every instrument. Rarely has chaos sounded this controlled.

And it was on a pecan farm half a mile from the Mexican border that McMorrow brought this collection of sounds and ideas turned them into 'Post Tropical.' The farm, which has hosted the likes of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Beach House and James' then-neighbour Dave Sitek, was to lend a unique quality to the record; audible in the low frequencies of 200-carriage freight trains or the birds nesting in the studio rafters, but felt more deeply across the mood and culture of the album itself. "It was compelling," James recalls. "The cartel used to carry drugs through the farm, because it was under the cover of trees, and you could walk down to the border even now and at certain points someone would throw cocaine to you. Everybody knew somebody who had been shot, and what struck us most was just how part of normal life these stories are."

Sound Remedy

The Sound Remedy Experience

Friday August 21st, 2015 8:00 PM (Doors at 6:00)

Sound Remedy is an American electronic music producer based out of Los Angeles, California. Hailing from Chicago, SR has been crafting his sound since the young age of 16, but only started to produce music fulltime 2 years ago. Despite obtaining a degree in finance from one of the nation’s elite business schools, SR opted to take a risk and pursue his true passion; music. Being that both of his parents are graduates of Juilliard School of Music and full time Chicago Symphony Orchestra players, this decision may have been in the cards all along.

Sound Remedy has made a name for himself by composing tracks that defy the laws of the traditional dance music. His epic creations can be likened to enthralling musical journey’s that captivate the listener from start to finish. There is truly no end in sight when it comes to the rapid growth of the Sound Remedy movement.

David Grisman Bluegrass Experience & Jeff Austin Band featuring Danny Barnes, Eric Thorin and Ross Martin

David Grisman Bluegrass Experience & Jeff Austin Band

Sunday September 13th, 2015 at 6:00 PM (Doors at 4:00)

For nearly half a century, mandolinist/composer/bandleader/producer David Grisman has been a guiding force in the evolving world of acoustic music. His musical range is wide and deep - embracing many styles, genres, and traditions.

An acoustic pioneer and innovator, David forged a unique personal artistic path, skillfully combing elements of the great American music/art forms - jazz and bluegrass with many international flavors and sensibilities to create his own distinctive idiom - "Dawg" music (the nickname given him by Jerry Garcia). In doing so, he's inspired new generations of acoustic string musicians, while creating his own niche in contemporary music.

Former Yonder Mountain String Band mandolinist & front-man Jeff Austin is unstoppable. He is celebrated for his fleet fingers and penchant for improvisation, but those qualities also speak volumes about how he chooses to live. Austin has cultivated his natural musical abilities and allowed himself to be driven by his boldest instincts. In this way, he has been able to build positive, exciting momentum around his life’s greatest passion.

“I love writing a three-minute song with a hook that would grab a five-hundred-pound marlin as much as I like writing something that goes, ‘okay, after the bridge, it’s going to open up and just go wide.”

Indeed, “wide” is what Jeff Austin is all about. He wants new and different, complex and interesting. He wants everything the music world has to offer, and he’s willing to work hard to get it.
